It's Easy Going Green!
From the Author
Dear Instructor,

I am very excited to offer you the next edition of 3-2-1 Code It!, my textbook that combines ICD-9-CM, HCPCS level II, and CPT coding concepts into one convenient product. 3-2-1 Code It! is Cengage Delmar Learning’s answer to the many requests we have received from instructors and students for a textbook that provides a thorough, hands-on approach to learning all three coding systems.

3-2-1 Code It! covers the same breadth of topics included in many individual coding textbooks, but my approach is to present basic to more advanced coding concepts in the same textbook. This text is perfect for a one-semester basic coding course, a two-semester sequence of coding courses, or an intermediate-to-advanced coding course. The instructor just selects the chapter concepts to present, depending on the level of course being taught, and the instructor’s manual provides samples of course organization to assist in this process.

The combination of images, easy-to-read text layout, coding tips, and chapter exercises and reviews demonstrates that this book was written and designed with the student in mind. The learning package associated with the textbook includes:

• A StudyWare CD-ROM packaged with the book that includes numerous practice exercises, games, and coding case studies with images and animations.

• The Encoder Pro CD-ROM, also packaged with the textbook, provides a free 30-day access to Ingenix’s sophisticated Encoder Pro coding encoder software.

• The Workbook to Accompany 3-2-1 Code It! is organized as a companion to the textbook, and each chapter contains many application-based assignments so students can practice the tasks they will eventually complete on-the-job. The workbook includes many coding cases and actual patient records as well as a mock CPC exam.

• The Online Companion offers additional student and instructor resources, including electronic patient records for all levels of care (e.g., ambulatory care surgery, emergency department, physician office, and inpatient).

I am interested in providing you with all of the tools you need to make your class a success. 3-2-1 Code It! instructor resources include:

• An Instructor’s Manual organized in an easy-to-use format with teaching tips, course syllabi, chapter lesson plans, answer keys to chapter exercises and reviews, answer keys to workbook assignments, and multiple choice questions (not duplicated in the computerized test bank).

• An Electronic Classroom Manager that contains an electronic version of the instructor’s manual, computerized test bank that includes over 1,800 questions in ExamView Pro test generator software, and 500 Power Point slides with illustrations taken from the core text. The Insurance, Billing and Coding Curriculum Guide is also included on this CD-ROM.

Online Companion with instructor-only resources such as electronic coding answer keys for patient records and our Course Forward Curriculum in a Box instructor’s resource including teaching tips, lesson plans, additional homework assignments and much more!

WebTutor™ course cartridge for Blackboard and WebCT that can be used to supplement on-campus course delivery or as the course management platform for an online course. WebTutor™ includes video clips, online quizzes for each chapter, discussion topics and learning links, an online glossary, answer keys to textbook exercises and reviews, PowerPoint slides, testbank, and communication tools, including a course calendar, chat, e-mail, and threaded discussions.

Please enjoy the new edition of 3-2-1 Code It!, which publishes in January 2009.
