Coopman/Lull’s Public Speaking: The Evolving Art: Enhanced Edition, 1st edition
The Authors

Welcome to Public Speaking: The Evolving Art: Enhanced Edition!

We began this project to address our observation that the Internet and other new media have changed every aspect of public speaking—from the initial stages of topic selection and research, to the final stages of practicing and delivering a speech. We live in a different world than we did before the millennium, and our students are right at the center of all this change.  So we wanted a different approach to public speaking—one that bridges the gap between the tradition of public speaking and the information-saturated, mediated world we live in now. To that end,

Public Speaking: The Evolving Art:

  • Presents the innovative pedagogical framework Read It, Watch It, Use It, Review It that adapts to students’ learning styles.
  • Provides video peer mentors, called Speech Buddies, available to students online anytime.
  • Offers a complete integration of the textbook’s online components with the flexibility to adjust to your classroom and technological proficiency.
  • Addresses critical issues associated with new media, such as the ease of plagiarizing speeches and the misuse of digital slides.

We want to know how closely your experience with Public Speaking: The Evolving Art matches our own. Please contact us at the.evolving.art@gmail.com with your comments and suggestions. We look forward to our conversations with you and your students!

Sincerely,
Stephanie J. Coopman and James Lull
